Wrapping up

Dr. Gwinn, Seth, and I finished up talks with Predisan today. We toured another of their clinics nearby before heading for one last location. We were warned that the ride would be...interesting. Our destination was at the top of a mountain. The picture below is from when we were about halfway up.

I am usually pretty good with heights, but there were places where there was nothing between the car and the sheer drop off of a cliff. We made it to the top without too much trouble and learned that the plan for that clinic was to tear it down and build it up again. The building's only source of power was a couple of solar panels on the roof. However, being so high up in the mountains, they did not get a lot of sunlight due to the mist and clouds swirling overhead. More panels could potentially be added to the roof to make up for this, but we may need to look into alternative energy sources.

The ride back down the mountain was significantly less smooth. After a few minutes, we found that we had worn our brakes out. I had a few urgent words with God and, luckily, He blessed us with a safe return.

After saying goodbye to our new friends, we headed back to meet up with the rest of our team. The veterinarians joined us for one last bottle rocket launch (We ended up getting it stuck in a tree. A few lost shoes later, one of the staff members threw a stick at it and got it on the first try. We were very impressed). After a frantic search for a team member's wallet, we collected a few things to help us remember our trip (If my brother Theo is reading this, I got two bags of coffee since I know you're going to end up drinking one of them before I can get the other back home. Love you!). After our last dinner, the HOI staff sang to us and made us a cake!

Tomorrow, we wake up early to milk cows and then head back towards the airport. I really enjoyed my time spent here in Honduras and I cannot wait to get back and tell everyone about it. To all of my electrical engineering peers, be prepared for me to pester you into coming next year. I cannot wait to see what Lipscomb will accomplish in this country!

God bless!
