In March 2018 the Peugeot Center dispatched a team of students, professors, and engineering professionals to Setzimaaj, a small community in the Alta Verpaz district of Guatemala. Here Lipscomb their host partner ADICAY helped the residents of Setizmaaj install a brand new fresh water distribution system. This system ran clean water from a stream on a nearby mountainside directly to homes of members of the community.
Due to the scope of the project the Lipscomb team had to return to Nashville before the system was fully completed. During the ensuing months, members of the community and the ever-diligent members of our partner ADICAY have remained finishing up what we were able to help start. They have laid more pipe, now reaching 99 homes, have installed a new spring box at the water source and holding tank to help regulate flow, and have constructed concrete supports along the main water line as it travels down the mountain.

This September a team from Lipscomb's Peugeot Center has an opportunity to return to Setzimaaj to see the completion of the project as well as attend the water system’s dedication. During the trip the team expects to visit three communities, Marichaj, Santa Rosita, and Cooperative Chircaj, and complete assessments to determine if other water projects are needed.
The team is so excited to return to Setzimaaj to see the work that has been completed since their departure! We fly out on August 31st, 2018 and will return on both the 4th and 6th of September. We ask for your prayers as we travel and as we continue to build connections and relationships with the people of Guatemala and our friends at ADICAY. You can keep up with our progress by subscribing to our blog as we post more blogs in the future.
